In line with their commitment to corporate sustainability, Mall of Egypt, City Centre Maadi and City Centre Alexandria, all owned and managed by Majid Al Futtaim, participated in the global Earth Hour movement, saving approximately 2000 kWh by simply dimming and switching off lights for one hour.
Majid Al Futtaim websites were also switched to ‘power saving mode’ during the hour to pay tribute to the movement.
In the week leading up to Earth Hour, the malls launched a social media “Pledge for the Cause” campaign to help raise awareness of the ways in which individuals, communities, households and businesses can do their part to conserve electricity. The campaign included a series of daily tips and a link to each mall’s website to encourage consumers to do their share and take a pledge to conserve water, use less energy, plant a tree, reuse and recycle, and/or reduce their carbon footprint.
With the opening of Mall of Egypt last month, Majid Al Futtaim’s flagship project in the country was able to formally join the Earth Hour activities for the first time. Earth Hour is a worldwide program, dedicated to creating a greener world and energy-saving processes. Complementing this message, the movement also emphasizes the importance of climate change action and the need for action. Majid Al Futtaim continues to reinforce green initiatives aimed at fostering environmental sustainability. For more information on Earth Hour, visit: www.earthhour.org
