City Centre Maadi and Alexandria City Centre Host Back to School Charity Drive
Cairo, Egypt, 18 September 2013 – As part of their ongoing commitment to the development of local communities in which they work City Centre Maadi and Alexandria City Centre recently launched a school charity drive to support students returning to school. In collaboration with several of Egypt's most prominent NGOs, both malls set up a donation booth in each mall and collected school supplies as well as money to buy much needed equipment for underprivileged students and orphans. In line with the back to school season, the charity drive took place in both malls throughout September.
As part of the initiative, donation booths collected school bags, stationary and uniforms donated by shoppers. In partnership with Ommar El Ard, in City Centre Maadi and Da'awa Lel Hayat in Alexandria City Centre, each mall identified needy students in their local areas and hosted an event for them during which the donations were distributed. Additionally, both malls partnered with Techno Kids, a technology teaching centre for children which donated an additional 300 school bags for the students.
Donations from Techno Kids were handed out on 14 September in Alexandria City Centre and 18 September in City Centre Maadi . On these days, each mall organized fun, engaging activities for 300 underprivileged children; including complementary meals from the food court, playing games at Magic Planet and movie viewing in Alexandria City Centre.
The school drive is just the latest in a long line of initiatives that both malls have undertaken in recent months to support the development of their local communities. Most recently, the shopping malls hosted the “Go Red for Women” campaign to support greater awareness of heart health among Egyptian women. They are also planning to hold several activities in support of World Heart Day on 29 September 2013.
